Ladyimps hit Leicester for seven

OOH Lincoln Ladies kicked off their pre-season programme in the strongest possible fashion, by firing seven goals passed Midland Combination outfit Leicester City Ladies without reply.

England international Amanda Barr opened up the scoring in the sixth minute for Lincoln with a clever chip over the advancing Leicester keeper’s head, and just two minutes later Tanya Dickenson finished from close range following a goalmouth scramble.

Right-back Leandra Little rose above the crowd to flick the ball into the back of the net from a corner to make it 3-0, then with 30 minutes on the clock Carla Ward made it four to the visitors when she delicately flicked the ball past the keeper from close range off an inch-perfect through ball into the box from Barr.

Sophie Barker beat a flat back four then rounded the keeper to tap the ball in for Lincoln’s sixth, and with just five minutes left on the clock Sarah Priestly - now back in the Lincoln squad after a season with Nettleham - powered her way into the box from the left to net past the diving keeper.

Lady Imps Raise The Barr

Amanda Barr

OOH LINCOLN LADIES F.C. has secured the signing of one of the biggest names in English women’s football.

England international Amanda Barr made the move from National Division side and last season’s FA Cup runners-up Leeds Utd., and this week put pen to paper to become the first player to sign for the club under its new name, having agreed a one year contract to play for the Lady Imps this coming season.

"This is an absolutely massive signing for our club" said Lady Imps chairman Geoff Adams. Amanda is a hugely talented international striker with a wealth of experience. She has played for some of the finest club sides in the country, but above all she is also a hugely experienced international player who has represented England many times. To gain the signing of an England international striker of this stature, who is still in her prime, must greatly increase our chances of attaining this club's holy grail of promotion to the National Division this coming season. I think the importance to our club, and the City of Lincoln, of signing Amanda Barr cannot be overstated!" he said.

England’s 26 year old striker was one of the first students to gain a football scholarship at the FA National Player Development Centre situated at Loughborough University, and scored an incredible 11 goals in 18 games with the National U18 side.

The Ladyimps have secured the services of England goalie Kay Hawke for at least another season.

Ladyimps chairman Geoff Adams and first team coach Sam Willett made the trip across the Pennines to sign contracts with Hawke - who the Lincoln Chairman has hailed "the finest keeper in the English game" - at Flowery Field Primary school in Hyde (near Manchester), where she works as a highly qualified teacher.

Witnessed by several of her class Hawke signed a contract to protect Lincoln's net for the 2008/2009 season, which will be her second season at the club. The England keeper was signed from National Division Club Blackburn Rovers at the beginning of last season to play for Lincoln when long-standing England U23 goalie Nic Hobbs left the club.
